There are no "international patents" or "world patents"

"This is an epoch-making new product that has been patented internationally!"

Have you ever seen an ad slogan like this? Under the current patent system, there are no "international patents" or "world patents" that are valid among all countries. There is a system that allows you to apply for patents in multiple countries in a single procedure called "international patent application". In some areas, such as the European Patent Office and the Eurasian Patent Office, not only applications but also rights can be granted in multiple countries (called "wide-area patents").

Today, the phrase "international patent" has only a kind of authority meaning and is treated as a synonym for scam, so I do not recommend it very much. In a terrible example, a product claims to be an international patent, but when I looked it up, I applied for it in South Korea but did not have a patent, and the applicant had nothing to do with the person promoting it.
